Le premier championnat professionel a éé crée en 1931 en Argentine. Entre 1967 et 1985, le championnat métropolitain rassemblait les équipes de Buenos Aires et des provinces proches, tandis que le championnat national se disputait entre les équipes de l'Intérieur de l'Argentine.
